The structure of single-phase electric energy meter
Now that you are familiar with what a single-phase meter is, let's discuss how a single-phase meter is made and how each component ensures efficient operation of a watt-hour or single-phase meter.
1. Drive system
Let's start with the driving system. The system consists of two electromagnets - a series and a parallel magnet.
Magnets in series provide the load current, while magnets in parallel provide the voltage.
When a series magnet is wound, it is called a current coil; when a trick magnet works, it is called a pressure coil.
The core of the electromagnet is made of silicon steel and kept laminated. You may ask why lamination is needed. Well, it helps reduce electrical energy loss that usually occurs in the form of heat.
A copper strip is also attached to the center leg of the shunt electromagnet, which helps to align the magnetic flux into a plumb state.
These all occur in the driving system of the single-phase electric energy meter.
2. Mobile system
Moving on, the movement system consists of an aluminum disc pressed inside the current and pressure coils.
Loads and voltage-currents generate alternating magnetic fluxes that pass through this aluminum disk.
When this happens, an electromotive force (emf) is generated. This force allows vortices to enter the disc.
3. Brake system
This is one of the most important components of a single-phase energy meter. The brake system controls the rotational speed of the aluminum disc.
Also, when the load is disconnected, it helps to restore it to its original condition. Brake magnets are located inside the brake disc and create a braking torque that slows down the brake disc.
4. Registration system
Finally, the recording system counts the number of times the disc has rotated. Note: The rotation of the disc is equal to the power consumption. The consumption of the load is measured in kilowatt-hours.
So, these are the four components of a single phase energy meter and the role each component plays in ensuring efficient operation.
Now, let us familiarize you with the benefits of this gauge.
