How to read an electricity meter

Depending on the type of meter, getting the amount of power consumed can be difficult or even easy. Analog gauges are hard to read; they take a little learning. On the other hand, digital meters are easy to read.

Read digital meters

Digital meters are very easy to read because there are no clock-like scales. The numbers on the screen are the exact meter readings at the time, so to get the electricity usage for a specific period, take two readings at the beginning and end of the period and get the difference. You can also consult your local utility company for help.

Read analog meters

The analog gauges are read from left to right, starting from the number on the 10000 dial to the number on the 1kWh per div clock-like scale.

If the dial pointer points between two numbers, take the smallest value unless it is between 0 and 9, then take 9, always

If the dial hand points exactly to a digit, check the position of the hand in the next clock tick, if it is on 9, subtract one from the digit, if it is not on 9, record the digit exactly
